Jln Bunga Tanjung 2
N/A
It was the place that was the first to spot the Japanese army approaching Borneo Island during World War 2. The old lighthouse has since been replaced with a newer one. But the old one is still there. Within the grounds of the lighthouse is the grave the lighthouse operator that allegedly died fending off the advancing Japanese troops. Next to it is a memorial which I couldn't confirm who it was for. Since there are Japanese characters I assume it is for Japanese who died here. It roughly translates to "workers of a fuel source factory" possibly workers who were extracting oil since miri's petroleum deposit was the reason why Miri was the first stop for the Japanese. It isn't easy to get to as it is in the grounds of an operational school. Perhaps if you came during the weekend you may have a higher chance of getting past the guards at the gate. Be nice and ask for permission. Honestly is the best policy!

Beautiful view from here especially during sunset
Tanjung Lobang Lighthouse was established in 1930 and destroyed by the bombing of the Japanese invasion in 1941, later rebuilt. Next to the lighthouse is World War ll Memorial. Not easy to find the place as you have to pass through college and registered at the gate counter. Historical landmark. Lighthouse is not in service now. Tanjung Lobang Sea Cliff is nearby.
