Batu Kurau, Malaysia
Kampung Sg. Ayer Hitam, Jelai

Great and beautiful place. Hidden away and not sign-posted, my guess is that is may only be known to locals. The place is quite well taken care of by the local villagers who charges a small fee of RM2 per car per entry, with basic cleaning and rubbish bins provided, though some uncivilised visitors leave more to be desired, especially with diapers. Changing room is available nearby for a small fee of 40sen. The stream is clean, water is dark somewhat, due to organic material rather than pollution (hence Air Hitam - black water). Be there early... there's one particular chest deep pool that's very popular, though there are enough spots to go around. If you wish to stay longer or have a 'proper' base, there are chalets available though at RM120 per night it is a bit steep given the basic set up... but then it sleeps 5 comfortably. All in all it is a good place for a day long picnic or for team building and other group activities. Have your fun responsibly... there are signs of water columns having rushed downstream in bout of rain upstream previously. When I was there, there were villagers on hand to warn you when there are signs of danger. One last thing... not a surprise at locations such as these... phone signals are next to zilch.
