MGA was formed in 1986, as initiated by its Founder Members which comprised some key players in the Malaysian gas industry which include PETRONAS, Shell, Esso and BP. Since then, its membership has grown to more than 150 corporate members today comprising companies and agencies involved in exploration, distribution, manufacturing and marketing of gas, including those providing support services. As a non-profit organization, MGA is the focal point for its members to work together in meeting the challenges and aspirations to promote and further develop the gas industry in Malaysia.
