tl;dr - Vendor took advantage of an elderly couple to overcharge for a custom desktop PC Be careful when dealing with him; get a second quotation or confirmation from an IT-savvy friend before buying from Techserv 1. My parents (in their 70s) needed a desktop; usage is about 98% web browsing and 2% MS Word 2. I gave them a list of specs for a budget office computer; kept the price around 2k 3. Initial quotation given by vendor was around 3k (including monitor, speakers, wireless keyboard and mouse and printer) 4. Parents never informed me that the final cost came to over 4k; even they were shocked and asked Mr. Neoh why the price jumped 5. He upgraded the specs, switching components for more expensive ones and adding unasked-for parts: - Mobo already had integrated video; vendor added an nVidia GPU - Added a wifi card when it wasn't necessary (desktop is connected to router) - Changed quoted speakers (at RM100) to a Logitech 2.1 set at RM225 6. My folks trusted Mr. Neoh to advise them, as he had previously supplied and installed a CCTV solution at their house; unfortunately they paid the RM4k price without checking with me first 7. He took advantage of an elderly couple who weren't knowledgeable about computers to overcharge them for unnecessary parts
