Chini, Malaysia

Disappointed. Silly government allow destructive (deforestation, mining, plantation) activity running surrounding the lake. This damaged the ecosystem. Lotus dying, lake dying.

The place may seem deserted, but don't go by its depressing look. Try the engine boat ride and explore the Orang Asli village. No doubts the lake is mystical and it turns more with dusk. Food is average but do have it since you won't any restaurants nearby. ALSO HAVE AMPLE FUEL IN YOUR CARS TANK. The nearby petrol pump is only the Smart one. Don't come without the boat ride. The nature of people and staffs are humble and great.
Excellent place

The resort is run down, but the boat ride is nice. Lake is so murky due to commercial activities. But the place is good for big groups activities. At night this area is spooky. Bring plenty of food. No shops for miles. And phone reception isn't good in case of emergency.
Seasonal lotus flower around the lake. It's undergoing recovery activities with some jungle harvesting activity. It's getting better now. Can experience boat cruising & side seeing of orang asli settlement.
Peaceful place but not as nice as when I first visitied back in 1998. I guess its some 20 years ago now and with the slack development laws in Malaysia, it is no wonder that it has changed. Still worth stopping in if your in the area.
